Well I managed to fix all this!

I followed all the advice and spent a week trying to get things moved and working right! just constant errors and issues no matter what route I took.

So I installed an old version of phpBB used a converter to migrate the database then updated to the latest phpBB software! all done within 4 hours

I think simple machines needs to really look at making things simpler
