Hi,
I've been getting into the code of SMF to adapt it for me needs, I even have my website(online game) login connected to the forum it's great.

Just sometimes I have trouble finding my round the SMF code with all the files I can't just read through one either. Would it be possible for some documentation to be made on where things are, or perhaps an FAQ for 'where do I find this' questions?
My other suggestion/request is that you have a sticky topic in 'SMF Coding Discussion' that contains a list of tutorials and doc threads, then edit the first post to keep the list updated. Here is a good example of what I mean: http://zeeblo.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3548

Anyway, the things I want to find are:
Where the menu bar is, so I can add a button(s), maybe based on permissions too(I should know how to do permissions though).
Where the logging in script is, or the best part to edit. I want users to login (I can do that from a non-forum page) but then [be on]/[see] a non-forum page and logged in.
Where URLs are parsed in posts. I want URLs of the same domain(domain.com/, domain.com/forum, and domain.com/anything) to open in the same window.

Thanks for any help with these.

This FAQ should help you with the menu buttons:

The other questions are unknown territory for me, so I'll have to leave those for people who actually know what they're doing :P

1. SMF has a logical structure (index.template.php, boardindex.template.php, messageindex.template.php, post.template.php and last but not least display.template.php), so ihave no idea why you cant find things ....

2. the buttons are on all pages, so its in index.template.php

3. parsing url in posts (check post.template.php) but there is [ iurl ] as UBBC-Code exactly for what you want to do.

1. yeah you are right, but it can still take some experience to know where you are going to find something. I think I'm getting to know the SMF code a bit more now, today I've been spending some time working on my forum so that's good for gaining experience.

2. The FAQ link was great, and I was able to get the graphics I need via there too. Thanks Sverre.

3. Ah, I didn't know about the [iurl] tag, that's quite good. I would like to change the parsing tochange the URLs, if this could be done because I couldn't find it in post.template.php

4. And that would just leave me with me with my last thing to do:
LainaaWhere the logging in script is, or the best part to edit. I want users to login (I can do that from a non-forum page) but then [be on]/[see] a non-forum page and logged in.

ah ok I'll be using iurl from now on -actually, brain wave while typing...
use the word censor to change [url=http://domain.com etc. to [iurl=http://domain.com

Anyone able to help me with the login thing?
I looked in ssi.php but could only find the part that displays the login form, not the actual login.
I don't know that much about SSI but I should know enough php.

well you can edit the login file, but i don't think you want that, cause the login file redirects to index.php and the array in index.php will then decide what to do, and if your pages are not in smf and has a function in it it will just die and say: Hacking attempt...

so therefore i suggest you search for a tut about ssi here on smf, cause i cant remember its location, there is also something about redirecting users to your defined page,

hope this helps a little bit?
There is only one thing more importend to me then coding:
