Hello everyone,

thank you to the community for the excellent work done to maintain this great tool that is SMF.

My question relates to the compatibility of SMF 2.1.4 and PHP 8.1: can I migrate without problem to PHP 8.1?
Are there any issues that might arise?
Is it better not to try it yet?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Have a good day :)

Modifications may have differing requirements though, just something to be aware of.

I just searched and didn't find an answer, so I took a chance. What I can say for others searching is that SMF works well with PHP 8.3 and even faster again on PHP 8.4, which I just upgraded my forum to.

I was under the impression that 2.1.4 was only compatible up to PHP 8.2?

Arantor

Officially, yes, but may work with minor warnings.

Mod compatibility is anyone's guess.

I'm currently running 2.1.4 on 8.3 and haven't run in to any issues. Our requirements page also says this should be fine.

I've been running Hogville and Fearless (the two huge boards in my sig) on 8.3.9 for a while, without any issues. There are a couple mod packages, but other than that, pretty bog standard SMF installs.

I have no idea how I missed that. I could've sworn I read somewhere 8.2 was the max. I'm glad I asked, as I've been waiting for 2.1.5 for 8.3 compatibility.

MobileCS

Found it! I knew I saw it somewhere ...

This post shows that PHP 8.3 support will be added in 2.1.5
