Hi Guys,
I've just installed the latest version of the SMF discuss bot and the "discuss this topic" buttons shows up fine. unfortunately, when you click on "discuss this tip" it takes you to the SMF error page saying "this board doesnt exist. I have tried it with a number of different boards and get the same message every time? Any ideas what the prob might be?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chad,
Thats with everything. I have tested in normal content items and get told the same thing.   :-\
Cheers

What are your SEF settings in Joomla and in SMF?

Also, what is the URL it brings you to when you click the link, versus what it would be if you manually went there via the forum?

choz

I am having this problem as well.  It started when I first installed disscutbot a few versions back and we could never get it figured out.  When I came across the updated version of DB I tried to give it another shot, but still no go.  Today I upgraded to SMF 1.1 RC1 thinking that might fix it.  Still no discussbot goodness.

However, I did discover that discussbot seems to be creating posts but not associating them with boards.  When I ran a "Find and fix" problems via SMF admin it came up with several stranded posts that were created by discussbot.

I was going to ask this question again myself after addressing another problem created from upgrading,  but as I was searching for answers to that question I came across this thread and thought I'd mention that I'm looking for an answer as well.  Hopefully the info about the stranded posts will help, I'd really love to get this feature working.

Bryan

EDIT:  for clarification, I also get a message similar to "You don't have access to edit this board" sometimes.  I believe it depends on whether I have tried to click the discussbot link before or not.  I can probably provide more specific information if needed.

SEF URLs are turned off in Mambo and SMF.

This is the link when using discussbot and getting the "board you specified does not exist" error:

http://www.texxors.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=49

This is the link when visiting the intended board by manually navigating to it:

http://www.texxors.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=49&board=31.0

Thanks,
Bryan

The link to the article where the discussbot code appears would probably help more.

Also, the exact {mos_smf_discuss:} code from the article copied and pasted here.

Odd.  From the page source, I can tell that it is definitely not finding that board name in the database:

<input type=hidden name="board" value="">

Orstio

Are you using multiple databases?  Did you add the database name and prefix to the discussbot params?

choz

Orstio,

Can you rephrase your question, I'm not sure if I am understanding it correctly?  As far as I know I am using two databases- 1 for mambo, 1 for SMF.  In the discussbot config via the mambo admin I added the SMF database name, and it already had the prefix smf_ added to the next box.  If I was supposed to do anything differently for two databases, or change the actual code, I have not done that.  I would really like to get this feature going, so I'd be glad to add a temporary admin user to the site for either you or chadness to look over my setup.  Just PM me if that would be helpful in diagnosing the problem.

That's all I wanted to confirm, thanks.  :)

I wonder if something I did broke it's ability to look in a seperate database.  I'll have to test this.

I also noticed another wierd error that seemed to be related to installing disscussbot, but I don't know why.

Since installing the mambot whenever I restart my browser (either IE or firefox) and log on to the page for the first time the html is messed up.  Specifically, the left center table (where the login, etc is) stretches about 50% of the way across the screen and the center table (with the main content) is squished over to the right side.  Anything below the first article is pushed down into the tables below.  It happened everytime you first visited the page, but reloading the page fixed everything.

I couldn't figure out why this suddenly appeared a few days ago, when the only thing I had changed had been the update to RC1 and the disscussbot install.  Neither seemed like they would be related.  However, when I uninstalled disscussbot everything went back to normal.

I can reinstall so you can see the error, but I'd like to do it when someone can look at it soon, since I obviously don't want to leave a broken site up (intentionally) for long.  We do have a handful of readers : )

I think this might be related to something specific in your template being messed up by my call to SSI.php.  Orstio just posted this might happen.  I may need to totally rewrite this to prevent that from happening.

choz

Just read that post.  I for one am OK with moving to Joomla.  I've been meaning to for a while, and a resolution to this problem would give me an incentive.

Do you have a URL I could see the problem at?

pcigre

I solved problem. It was problem with two databases. I added same database user and that it worked. But I needed to unpublish mambot and revert template change, coz it breaks layaout.

It was  strange coz those layout problems wasn't there on every refresh...

chadness

You might want to try using 4.1 beta 5 - it doesn't mess with the layout as much.  It's not as pretty, but....

What are different from 4.1 final to 4.1 beta 5?

chadness

Mostly it's sending the posts through SMF's BBC parser, so that all of the code tags, smileys, etc., look the same as they do in SMF.  However, this is what is probably messing up your layout.

pcigre

I'm not sure did I undestand you well...

I'll never show posts on my Joomla site, just links.

chadness

If you never show posts, the differences are very minimal.  These are the only ones you would run in to, and they are extremely minor:

  • Added ability to have a seperate description if there is only 1 comment (so you can have singular and plural descriptions).
  • Reversed the way the discussbot image was pointing.

Just to confirm, Chadness, 4.1 wouldn't work with my template... messed with ssi.php call. 4.1beta5 works fine. Thanks again.

chadness

No problem.  I have to re-write it to not call SSI.php when I get time.

Same layout problem here. Ill try switching to beta 5 now.

I was thinking about it, and if anyone with the layout problem could try turning off the option, "Allow code, if enabled in SMF?", I'd be interested to hear if that fixes the problem.

buf

I turned it off, and it still messes up the template. Just so you know ;)

Thanks!

What other SMF related modules do you have on the pages that are messed up, besides who's online and the login module?  I think the conflict is related to a latest posts type of module.

I have this layout problem too.  After publishing the bot v4.1final.

My whole template is messed up.

I have a 3 column template (left, user, right).

After publishing this bot, everything that should be in the left and right colums appeard underneath the user column.

I had to unpublish the bot for it to work.

Using Joomla 1.0.8, joomla-smf v1.1.02

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
