Protocol Error Question SMF 2.0.19

Hello SMF freinds,

after updated to SMF 2.0.19 (PHP 8.1) I get this errors only in the Protocol Error Logs:

/forum/index.php?
8192: preg_replace(): Passing null to parameter #3 ($subject) of type array|string is deprecated
public_html/forum/Sources/Load.php
2247

You don't get any message when you visit the forum and everything runs without errors.

Does anybody know what it means?

Yeah, you are running SMF 2.0 on PHP 8.1 and it's letting you know there is something present in the code that should be updated because the next PHP update will break it. You should upgrade to SMF 2.1 really.

Deprecated errors indicate that the functions you're using are outdated and no longer recommended for use, as they might not be supported in future PHP versions.

When I try to update to the latest version, it shows high risk update.  So I'm unsure.

Can you please tell us what you mean by that? Where does it show that? A screenshot would be helpful.

Are you trying to upgrade with a third party installer (not recommended) or the SMF large upgrade package?

I'm using the Installatron, one click installation and upgrade. But again, it shows high risk update for the latest version.

It's best to do a manual upgrade rather than using Installatron or any other third party auto installer/upgrader.

It's "high risk" using that one-click installer because they do things incorrectly.

Using the standard upgrade process that Doug linked above --
1- If you are using a custom theme in 2.0.x, you will need to get new theme(s) for 2.1.x
2- You will have to get the updated versions of any mods that you have installed.

The forum is up and running so far and many still use 2.0.19, but I might try it out in a few days.

P.S. The theme that comes with the new SMF 2.1.4 are responsiv??

yes. The default theme is repsonsive as are most (if not all) of the custom themes on our theme site

Okay. How should I proceed since I don't have the default theme on 2.0.19?

Do I have to uninstall the theme before the update or try to make the update first and than install the default theme?

no 2.1 has a brand new default theme it will overide the old one!

Also any old 2.0.19 themes you have installed will not work with 2.1 line
