jorgen

Id like to get an rss feed fo my SMF1.1rc1 forum wrapped in joomla.
Is this possible?

I know I can use "index.php?action=.xml;sa=news;type=rss" to get to the standalone forum, but how to link to the wrapped forum???

Kindred

"index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=##&action=.xml;sa=news;type=rss"

where itemid= the itemid of your smf install....

Well.

-The google personilized homepage tells me that it "did not match any feeds".
-Google reader says it "has no items"
-And Opera's integrated rss-reader says it is empty.

jorgen

I've tested the RSS feeds in http://feedvalidator.org.

The feed from my unwrapped forum,
http://www.inventorforum.net/components/smf_forum/index.php?action=.xml;sa=news;type=rss validates perfectly in the feedvalidator.

But the feed from the wrapped forum, http://www.inventorforum.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=123&action=.xml;sa=news;type=rss do NOT validate in feedvalidator:
QuoteSorry

This feed does not validate.

    *

      line 5, column 68: XML parsing error: <unknown>:5:68: not well-formed (invalid token) [help]

                <link>http://www.inventorforum.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=123&</link>

So there must be a problem somewhere with my bridge.
Does anybode else have successful RSS feeds that links to a wrapped forum?  I'd love to see it in action.

chadness

So, apparently it doesn't like the ampersands.  I haven't really used the RSS features of Joomla, but what happens with a regular RSS feed from Joomla?

I am interested in any solutions to this issue as well.

Here is the link to the feed:
http://www.kampforum.com/forumet/board,16/action,.xml/limit,5/sa,recent/type,rss2/

Here is the validator output, and as you can see my problem is exactly the same:
http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kampforum.com%2Fforumet%2Fboard%2C16%2Faction%2C.xml%2Flimit%2C5%2Fsa%2Crecent%2Ftype%2Crss2%2F

See, I don't understand why you are asking for a solution. It works just perfectly...

http://askawitchcommunity.org/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=147&action=.xml;limit=20;type=rss2
no issues what-so-ever...  the feeds come in, they validate and they point to the wrapped forum.

I dont understand it either!

How come this does not validate:

<rss version="2.0" xml:lang="en-US">

And this does:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<rss version="2.0" xml:lang="en-US">

When looking at the code I pasted above, I see that your links do not point to the wrapped forum, but to the standalone forum, and my links point to the wrapped forum. Your links have no ampersands either, but I dont understand why that should be an issue.

Kindred

by george, you're right!   It is now pointing to the unwrapped forum.  Interesting.

However, I can tell you right now, that the & (ampersands) *WILL* cause you errors.
Any & within an XML *MUST* be represented by &amp;

(your extended ascii for the non-english language might also cause problems)

Also on Safari the feed loads...but on Firefox on a Mac it pops up a download window and asks where you want to save the file.

Does anyone know a solution to the issue of RSS feeds to a wrapped forum? I continue to try and find a solution, but am stuck.

Cheers,

It will be fixed in future versions of SMF.  ;)

I know this is an old thread, but a new version of SMF has just come out. I'm desperate to know if the RSS issue for Joomla integrated sites is fixed?!
