Cant change permissions!

in sources/managepermissions.php and subs.php I cant manually change the permissions to apply the arcade mod .... what do i need to do to change the permissions?

Why can't you manually change them? Have you tried letting SMF do it?

because it says an error: bad file descriptor.... I had my host look up the problem and they say that there is prolly a script changing the permissions back.
I tried letting smf do it, but when i try to install a package it says test failed, because it couldnt execute modiification of those 2 files.
