Need to fix my URL and/or website folder location

I'm not sure what to even call this issue but I just installed smf on a new host. Well I haven't messed with website configuration in forever but it seemed easy enough as I followed the steps in the SMF installation documentation. The domain name is pawsietogsforum.x (replace x with .com). I wanted the forum to be at that location. After installing SMF, I started configuring the forum for users to start using it. Then I noticed my URL for the site is showing (in the browser) pawsietogsforum.x/pawsietogsforum.x (replace x with .com), so I obviously did something wrong. The forum is in the pubic_html folder, under the root directory. I don't know where or how to change the forum URL. I imagine I could have a nightmare on my hands if I don't fix it correctly. I did backup my site just in case.

For SMF, all paths and urls can be reconfigured with Repair_Settings.php

What is repair_settings.php?

However, this sounds like something is wrong outside of SMF as well, since if the paths were simply configured wrong for SMF, SMF would not work.

How you can help SMF

Everything works just fine.  I just want to fix the url because it looks dumb having the same words in the domain name repeated in it. I would rather it look something like hxxp:pawsietogsforum.xxx/CONNECT [nonactive] instead of hxxp:pawsietogsforum.xxx/pawsietogsforum.xxx [nonactive]
I tried renaming the folder in the public_html folder named hxxp:pawsietogsforum.xxx [nonactive] to CONNECT but that resulted in a browser error.  If I knew HOW the hxxp:pawsietogsforum.xxx [nonactive] folder got named in the first place, maybe I could just fix that by renaming...but also maybe, break some linkages as well if another file references it.

The domain is misconfigured.  You have to fix that in host control panel, or ask support to do it.

I would like to change the URL from 'forum' to 'community'.

Would someone please be able to tell me how to achieve this?

All you have to do is rename your forum folder from 'forum' to 'community' and then run the repair_settings tool. Click on all the recommended values and save the changes.

Does that sound like what I need to do? i.e. Change my forum folder name (from hxxp:pawsietogsforum.xxx [nonactive] to CONNECT as the new folder name), then run the repair tool?

can  you change the name of the folder pawsietogsforum.com to community?

if so then run What is repair_settings.php? and you should be good to go.

Yes, all you have to do is rename the folder where you have installed your forum to whatever new name you want to use and then use the aforementioned tool afterwards to straighten out all paths and urls.

That will not fix it.  The domain goes to the Index of/ page, not the forum.  Try it.

Yes, I can rename it.  I'll try that later today, and then use the repair tool.

At the very least, you would have to redirect the domain to the forum directory, repair_settings won't do that.  Better to fix the domain.

unless they want another system or page at the home page of their domain. this has not been answered. if they want SMF as the main page/home page, they can move the files to that location and run repair_settings.php.

I'm only using the domain for my SMF forum so from what I've read, I can either move the forum folder to be at the top of the file structure + run repair tool, or rename the forum folder (I think that's my main objective, is to rename the forum folder so my forum is re-named  hxxp:pawsietogsforum.xxx/CONNECT [nonactive]  with CONNECT the new name of the forum folder + run repair tool). I THINK.

Moved all the files from under the hxxp:pawsietogsforum.xxx [nonactive]

The fix that was tried was to move all of the files under the hxxp:pawsietogsforum.xxx [nonactive] folder to the top of the entire file structure, ran the repair tool, VOILA!  All is well now, the forum URL is now correct.  Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad to see that you got it sorted out. I am marking this as solved.
