any reason why a "a new member has joined" email would arrive years later?

I just got the "a new member has joined" email for a member that joined in November of '21.

Also, from what I can tell this person never went beyond signing up as far as logging in and looking around as they don't have a "last active" on their summary.

Registration is also disabled on the site right now--has been for some time.

thoughts?

do you have your forum set to re-activate  on password change? if so that can trigger that email to be sent.

1. i've never addressed that setting; and
2. their account doesn't show any last active stamp so I'm not sure they were there to change a password.

i'll go look.

Way back in the 2.0 days, I recall seeing a similar string of emails.

IIRC, some folks had been approved requiring email activation.  And we're totally forgotten & in limbo for years.

I forget what eventually triggered the emails, but deleting old accts awaiting activation stopped them.

Can you direct me to that setting?

admin -> security and moderation -> general Require reactivation after email change i think this applies for password change as well.

Found it.  Thank you.  Yes it was checked off.

I'll have to watch now.

Well one just popped up 3 years later.  I checked on the setting and the box is empty.  So, not sure why.
