Strange: newly made board won't show topics

Previous topic - Next topic

In order to rearrange our topics I made a new board. Did this very often in older versions and have lots of examples to compare with. In latest version (SMF 2.1.4) it is the first time arranging new boards and topics.

When I move an existing topic to that new board, it is not shown. Even in den overview it is said, that this board does not contain any topic or boards itself.
Strangely I see the recent posts of the topic and can click into it, seeing that it is in the right board. Yet in looking at that exactly same board there is no topic shown.

I tried this several times including making new boards and moving various topics but with no success.
Moving the topic to other boards result in the wanted behavior: the topic is shown within others below when entering the board.

Should mention: when trying to make a board I first got an error saying that the field "num_posts" did not have a default value. I was able to fix that in the database.

@Kindred
Sorry, I should have listed them right away: yes I have installed a few mods.

There are problems with updating Tiny portal. Although I install the latest version there ist still the old version listed. Thats why the packet manager looks like this:

You cannot view this attachment.

My first thought is bad caching, most likely some server side cache not really designed for dynamic constantly changing content. Many cheaper hosts do this, to the point that may inadvertently grant access to restricted content without logging in. You could easily make sure it's not SMF caching, by emptying the forum file cache, but for possible server side cache you may need to contact your host.

Thank you for your advice.
I emtied the amf cache but the behavior is still the same.

When moving the topic "Videochat" to the board "Forums-Chat" it is:

reading the topic shows that it is within the board:
You cannot view this attachment.

The board itself shows no topics (in German: keine Beiträge)
You cannot view this attachment.

Does the moved topic EVER show up in that board index?

Can you try UNINSTALLING the topic start date on message index mod?

Sounds like the move routine isn't updating the total number of topics in the board - if SMF sees the "total topics" in a board as zero, I believe it doesn't actually *check* if that's true.

Maybe run the "recount all forum statistics" maintenance task.

Thanks @Kindred and @Arantor for your suggestions. I tried both but without success.

When I move the topic to any other board it is shown and listet as it should be. The board index/count is calculated correctly for any other board than the new ones.

JessyKa

Hello @Arrantor,
yes it is.

But I solved it by trying the following things:
- deinstall Tiny portal
- install Tiny portal in the version 2.3.1
at that point anything was the same

Then:
- recalculating the statistics

and there it was:
You cannot view this attachment.

Thanks so much for your ideas, I wasn't able to fix that on my own.

Great support!

Arantor

Yeah, recalculate the statistics fixes all sorts of weird oddities like that. Glad you got it sorted.
