Hi guys,

I have one particular user (based in China), that for some time has had a rather strange New Topic interface.
He had reported this issue some time ago and to be honest, I thought it had been resolved but obviously Not  :(

This, is what he Sees:

You cannot view this attachment.

He has Never managed to get / see this:

You cannot view this attachment.

Quite some difference !!
As far as I am aware he is the Only member experiencing this issue.
He does not even see the PostImage button ??

His Spec's, are;
OS(win10 22H2 19045.5073) is unicode.
Browser is firefox[131.0.3 (64 bit) also, MS Edge.

I had at one stage thought perhaps being in China, they may have been somehow 'Filtering' out the PostImage function but it still does not explain the lack of Formatting Buttons etc.
We had previously suggested / tried changing/checking WYSIWYG settings etc to no avail.

Anyone have Any ideas what may be causing this ??

Thanks in advance  8)

If I had to guess, I'd start by looking at the language package - is there something wrong with it? Does it break code, stopping JS?

How you can help SMF

Well, as far as I'm aware he is Not using a language Pack and like the rest of us, using the Forum Default Theme and language, being English.

We have not loaded any language Packs and whilst we do have members from All parts of the globe this forum and it's earlier forebears were all in English and the members actually prefer to keep everything in English.

Try changing the JavaScript source to local rather than one of the CDNs.

OK,... How will that affect all the other members ??

It shouldn't...   what is probably happening is that China is blocking the delivery of js

Hi again guys,
Apologies for not getting back to you all about this Issue.

Having now checked, it seems OUR JavaScript source IS 'local', so that is perhaps obviously Not the problem :(

Anything I can perhaps get my User to try locally that might help shed some light on his issue ??

cheers,
Stewart

Well, he normally runs Firefox but Has tried and often also uses Chrome but has also tried MS Edge, all to no avail  :(

OK, will suggest same, as I have to contact over another matter.

JS is enabled by default in most browsers, so that's probably not the problem.  If it's only happening to the one member in China, it's more likely something related to this -

Hmmm, ... I guess ... perhaps but he experiences No Speed or Loading issues of the forum at all, as far as I'm aware and can interact with it similarly to our other users.

Mind you, that said, I will usually see a string of Errors appear in my Admin' section whenever He posts 'Attachments', such as Images in his post or Files uploaded to the server by the forum's interface.

I am unaware of there being Any other Issue with the forum, Other than the 'Depleted' user interface when Posting.  :(

Would be interesting to see those errors.

OK, will Copy & post them here next time he does  :)

Well, after discussing this with the member and my local Sys' Admin' friend, we Cleared the Forum Cache and perhaps miraculously, it seems to have Fixed his issue !!  ???  ::)  :o  :)

I asked him to Post both an image file and a code .zip file (as he has done previously, causing errors) and No errors were generated  8)

This is all rather odd TBH, as he has been experiencing this Issue for some time, during which the Cache Would have been cleared, seemingly Without fixing his issue,... so,... go figure,....  ::)

Why this worked, I have NO idea but at least I have a happy forum member  :)
Will just have to wait and see if his issue occurs again, in the future.
 :)
