Remove Message Icons totally

LOL, I have always been treated so badly by the software. I ended up taking it as it appeared and there were no posts. Then I turned post mod back on > went thru the forum listing and there were 2 places where hat mean exclamation mark was. 

I then went thru the list of topics, and oddly enough I found 2 posts that were RE: post but, the original post was nowhere. They were created by a former admin eons ago. There was nowhere to approve the post so considering its age I deleted it, then did the same for the other 3 I found.


I then turn off the post-mod again, and if that exclamation mark comes back, I will "mebbe" remember what I did or come back here and see what I did.


Thanks so very much. I absolutely love this software, even if it tends to hate me at times. The people who help me with problems that I trust may be "only me" types.

Since it is simply a flag that is bisbehaving, isn't there a way to set the flag to zero (or false, or whatever needs to be done for the desired effect) in code?
Once done, remove that piece of code as it will no longer be needed.

There was a way in 2.0 version of SMF but as I said my cheat sheet of hints to do is lost forever due to a couple of hard drive crashes. So for now I do have a work around.,,sort of.

Hopefully one of the subject matter experts here can find a workable solution for you. I am just an outside observer myself, but the issue seems like it 'should' be easy enough to remedy, given the right knowledge.

thing is -- we don't know for sure what the CAUSE is -- so, direct edit of the database could make things WORSE

yup sometimes a "fix" breaks something else, something that happens with updates/upgrades as for now, this temp fix should be fine.

Turning post moderation on then off again should forcibly mark anything 'moderated' as approved, reset all the weird counters and generally get it to behave.

Find/repair doesn't touch moderation status.
