SMF 2.1.4
Default Theme "Curve"
Browser(s) Firefox and Chrome
The errors occur on my iPhone as well as my current Windows 11

I am getting multiple errors every time I log in to my forum as admin and touch a link with my mouse. Here's all the info I was able to collect (I've replaced the actual domain name with ****** below):

Type of error Undefied_vars
Error Message 8: Undefined offset:12
File /home/******/domains/foxexchange.org/public_html/Sources/Subs.php
Line 4570
Url of page causing the error https://foxexchange.org/index.php?action=admin;area=maintain;caf15ae=ddbb26f1b254cb66ff37959e3585cb2a

Backtrace information
#0: smf_error_handler()
Called from /home/******/foxexchange.org/public_html/Sources/Subs.php on line 4570
#1: template_header()
Called from /home/******/domains/foxexchange.org/public_html/Sources/Subs.php on line 4157
#2: obExit()
Called from /home/*****/domains/foxexchange.org/public_html/index.php on line 187

Steps I've taken to try to debug/fix

  • ran repair_settings.php
  • uninstalled the one mod I had (Arantor's sidebar (I'd like to get it back!)
  • consulted with my host and they did the following:
    We tried changing the PHP versions, ran the SMF repair script, changed the cookies name, deleted cache, fixed the attachments path and we also replaced the Subs.php from a fresh install but the issue persists. I would suggest checking with the SMF community if anyone encountered such an issue.
  • ran all the maintenance tasks
  • Removed Mods (I had installed only Arantor's Sidebar)

Was the installation of that mod the latest change done to the forum prior to these errors happening?

Mareid

I'd been using that mod ever since the ability to set admin to the sidebar disappeared i 2.?? so I don't think it's the mod, and removing it didn't help.  I don't know when the errors started happening in such volume, but I kind of think it's related to the chenge the host made on their server.

Please bear in mind that I'm out of my depth here and I may not be describing things exactly properly..

Originally smf was in a sub-domain.  I decided to let the parent domain expire and asked the host company to modify my settings to get rid of the parent and just make foxexchange.org the only domain.  I also asked them to set things up to go directly to the smf forum when a user enters  https://foxexchange.org.  That part works just fine.  Uxers don't notice any errors, they are just piling up in the admin log.  I did not notice this effect before the change, but I can't say it occurred after the change either.

I've been in touch with the hosting company.  I gave them admin access, and they ran all the same diagnostics and repairs that I did,  Their advice was to ask here to see if anyone had had the same problem.

Would it help if I posted the structure of the domain layout on the server?

Arantor's sidebars mod shouldn't cause any problems, it's hooked and has it's own source, template, and css files, doesn't modify any core files.  The forum is using sslRedirect to force https, ask your host to remove it and see if errors stop.  If that's the case, you can force https with .htaccess.  You also need to be sure that all paths in repair_settings are https.

I asked my host support folks follow all the steps in the Sir Osis's post below and they say they did (they are really reliable and pleasant).

Crocweb they are great. iirc, Sir Osis, you suggested them to me a few years ago.  Theyve been extremely helpful, their support is outstanding.

Looks like another of my posts has been deleted.  What I suggested was to clear your forum cache in Admin > Server Settings, and check the attachments path in attachment settings, it must be a server path, not url.

Wild guesses here...

I'd clear cache, in case old menus were cached.

What are your cookie settings?  The change from subdomain to domain has cookie implications.

Review the Attachment Directories settings also, in addition to Attachments Settings.

Yes, that's what I had posted couple days ago, but post was deleted, once again with no explanation,

no posts from you have been deleted from this topic.

Can confirm. I can find exactly 1 deletion within the past 10 days, and 1 post edit in the same time frame. And neither were in this topic.

How you can help SMF

Mareid

I think its fixed.  There was something wrong with the attachments.  There was an error (see attachment).  I "attempt to fix" and that didn't work because I thought the path was actually correct, but I had set settings to Month/Year. I ran the attachment integrity check, added the month/year files and I'm now in the process of transferring everything to "Attachments"  There's only a few 100k in the total.  Sadly my board is not very active.  It's in a Senior residents, and the residents are mostly not tuned in to technology.

Thanks for the suggestions, very helpful

May have posted reply in wrong topic, been doing that lately but usually catch it.  Will see if I can find the post.

Nothing good about getting old.  :(

It's my fault.  I posted in the wrong place and asked for an admin to delete the extra posting. I'll double check that it got flagged. It appears to have been deleted.
