I regret the update to 2.1.4. Can't modify the footer or security questions

I upgraded to SMF 2.1.4 and now I regret it.

First of all, I can no longer modify the footer as I could with version 2.0. In the previous version, there was an easy checkbox that allowed me to add something to the footer of the forum.

Additionally, I am unable to create custom security questions during registration. Firefox doesn't show anything and all I see is just the word [English]. When I click on it, nothing happens.

Is this how it is supposed to be?

I would appreciate receiving a response as to why this is happening. Thank you.

No, no there was not. If your forum had this, it was a modification.

No, clicking on the language should bring up options to add a question. Try a hard refresh or emptying browser's cache, if that fails, try a different browser?

Unfortunately, it is not correct. Moreover, my forum has never had any modification at all.

Firefox is the only browser that offers more or less privacy and I have no intention of trying another browser.

No, there was not.  Either it was a mod or you're not describing it correctly.

The template appears to be broken.  Try uploading a clean set of 2.1.4 files from upgrade package.

I've already thought of that and created a test forum 24 hours ago. The problem remains.

Looks like you have javascript disabled in your browser, that will break many things in 2.1.4.  I can replicate the verification question problem by disabling js in Firefox.

Did you try a different browser? If that helps, look at browser extensions like adblockers. There's a reason I suggested that.

When I login, I disable my adblocker AND the adblocker within Firefox.

And as already written, Firefox is the only browser that offers more or less privacy and I have no intention of trying another browser.

OK - Well, ability to modify footer from admin cp has always required a mod.
The behaviour you are seeing is consistent with something blocking functionality. Trying with a different browser is a perfectly valid tool to see if this is user side. I am not suggesting you switch browsers permanently.

If you intend to just argue everything we say, then good luck on your own.

Okay! If the solution is only to use another browser, than I think it would be better if I could restore the forum from a backup.
I would only have the 2.0 version again, but it was well programmed for my needs and didn't cause any problems.

It's not a problem at all, I just thought version 2.1 would be better and more modern.

But what's important isn't whether I can handle it personally or if I like it, but whether the others are satisfied.

Just so I'm clear - I am currently using FF 136.0.4 (64-bit) myself, and I can see and use the options just fine.
So, I'm not asking to find out if it's Firefox, I'm asking to find out if it's something in your specific install of Firefox.

If you tried a different browser, and the behaviour remained, we'd know it's probably something wrong on your server's side. If you tried a different browser, and the options suddenly worked, we'd know for sure it's something in your browser. If you insist on not even testing, then that's up to you...

Good, now we are getting somewhere. If it works on edge, but it doesn't work on Firefox - we know it's most likely something in your Firefox causing this.

Okay, just to try and continue eliminating suspects,
in your browser settings, what level is your "Enhanced Tracking Protection" set to?
If it's anything other than Standard, try changing it to Standard and see if this changes anything.

That's what you should see in status bar if you mouseover 'English'.  There should be 42 files in /Themes/default/scripts directory.  How many do you have?

I logged in into my test forum with my smartphone, but I can't change it with FF.

Yesterday, I logged in with my Windows 10 and FF and it can't be changed. It seems like it's not possible with the FF browser.

Is there anyone else here who can confirm that they can't change the security questions with the Firefox browser?

It's not Firefox itself, I thought we established that already. It is something more specific to your Firefox, or your settings. Did you check your tracking protection settings?

Quite a few of us here use FF, and we don't see this issue.

I have installed the version with Installatron on GoDaddy. What I will try later is to download the zip of version 2.1.4 and extract it in the folder where the test forum installation is located. I will let you know

I use FF on mobile & desktop on 2.1.4. Always have. Never an issue.

OTOH, I'd avoid installatron.  Always seems to have issues.

For that matter, so does GoDaddy.

I think we have two potential vectors, as Shawn said -- your specific firefox install and the fact that you used godaddy's autoinstaller

I'm sorry guys, I deleted my test forum with version 2.1.4 and switched my main forum back from backup to SMF 2.0.19.

It's too complicated when it's not possible to update or install SMF using Installatron on GoDaddy, or when you try to install SMF 2.1.4 and it doesn't work completely.

I tried it anyway 🤷�♀️

At some point you need to upgrade, though.  Sooner rather than later.

It doesn't sound good if you need Unix admin, database and SMF knowledge to install SMF 2.1.X...

Almost everyone expects a simple and uncomplicated installation without special prior knowledge because very few have it, myself included.
SMF 2.0 was easy to install and worked on almost every host and everywhere.

Installing an SMF forum with a host installer is not recommended, it often doesn't go well, moreso if the host is GoDaddy .  You should be able to do a clean 2.0.19 install with a new database, drop tables, import your production 2.0.19 database, and run the 2.1.4 upgrade successfully.  It's not rocket science, as long as the database isn't damaged it should work.

The installation and update have been largely the same always, we have never recommended one-click installers, and when something goes wrong the one-cick installer or your host often won't help you fix things, so it is actually important you understand what happens "behind the scenes" a little. This basically applies to any self hosted application, you should learn what they do and how they work, so you can keep them working.
