SMF is going to need a WYSIWYG editor soon to keep up with the competition. As I have said before the best forum editor I have seen is the one in Web Wiz Forums which is great and works with all browsers (unlike the one in IPB).

Although an editor will obviously not be ready for SMF 1.1 RC2 it would be nice to see one being started after 1.1 goes final

If it does get added it would be to 1.2/2.0.  1.1 is at a feature freeze.

One question. Is it more safe and easier to upgrade from 1.0.5 or from 1.1rc2 to 1.1final? Yes I know, it's stuped question, beacuse 1.1final is not yet ready, and there is possibility, that there is rc3 coming. But still.. what are your opinions. Specially, if I want to use my own theme.

It all depends on the size of your forum.  If you have a pretty large forum and you upgrade from 1.0.5 to 1.1 RC2 or 1.0.5 to 1.1 Final be prepared to wait a while.  If it's 1.1 RC2 to 1.1 Final it would be a breeze for the most part.

As I now start developing my own forum on 1.1RC1, I wonder how much time and work it will generate to migrate it to 1.1RC2 or 1.1 Final. Basically I'm talking about efforts needed to get a customized layout working and about Joomla! integration.

Thanks,
Mike

RC2 will add a new theme, but an *awful* lot of work has gone into making sure old themes do not break. It shouldn't be too much work to go  from RC1 to RC2. SMf is now feature frozen, and the only changes that will be made from RC2 to Final will be bug fixes.

Thanks for the info, Grudge. That sounds promising  :)

If RC2 is coming out, please please please please add a wysiwyg like thing when making or editing post, it will be so great, and will be another very good reason to use SMF instead of phpBB or the others that are ugly!

Confused here... I am replying in a WYSIWYG editor. What am I missing?

1MileCrash

no you arent...smf does not use a wysiwyg editor.
The only thing php can't do is tell you how much milk is left in the fridge.
