New Post Counts?

Up at the top of the forums, where it shows your name, and you PM status, I was wondering if it were possible to make a change, and if so, how I would go about doing that.

In that section, there is the link that takes you to the list of topics with new posts since your last visit. The link current reads:

Show unread posts since last visit.

What I would like it to say is:

There are xx new posts in yy threads. Show them.

So, any ideas where I would get the information for xx and yy? I am pretty sure that I can find the proper location in index.template.php to place the information. I just need to figure out how to get those counds.
