Excluding certain boards from Unread Posts list

[confusion]

I have a site where I'm importing lots of news through RSS which go into a few certain boards.  I'd like to exclude messages in those boards from showing up on the list of unread topics - so that only discussions make it onto that list.  It looks like I'm going to need to modify the UnreadTopics function in Sources/Recent.php.  Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on proceeding?
