How do I use the XML format?

I've been using YaBB SE with an Enigma portal for a LONG time, and they recently upgraded to Enigma 2 which uses SMF forums.  I really like the upgrade, however I've been using BoardMod for so long it's hard for me to figure out this new XML package thing.  All the links to get to the documentation on manual installation are broken.

Anybody have any suggestions, so I can start doing mods for SMF?
