adding html code to index template for 1.05

i guess this is where i would post this question. i have html for a realtime weather banner and was wondering how i would replace where the smf logo is with the weather banner or if this is even possible? i did some searching and am guessing i edit the index template but not positive. anyways, if someone could help me or point me in the right direction that would be great. here is the code i want to use. just need to know what i replace and where it goes. thanks!

elmacik, i attempted it and got some kind of template parse error and my forums wouldn't load. i reloaded the template index backup and it went back to normal but i couldnt get this code to work. i will continue to attempt this, but the first try failed.

after some other issues i upgraded my forum to 1.1 rc1. now the code with the smf logo is different so now what would i replace to get this to work in 1.1rc1?
