Um it seems to me Joomla is the future of the mambo open source project. Many componets that are made for Mombo work with joomla. It seems that Miro (the company that owns mambo) has decided to take another route to make money and has left the open source market. http://www.miro.com.au/ They have a new product call jango. So long story short, if you want a product that is still growing, joomla is the way to go!

Orstio

I believe Mambo is still open source, and still growing, but will definitely head in a different coding direction than Joomla in the future.

Jango has been around for quite a while.  It's what first confused me .... Mambo & Jango available on the same site. Do you want to pay for software or download it for free ?

I'm much happier with Joomla though :)

Go with Joomla! as most (all?) core developers switched to it - for Mambo, Miro had to search new developers. Also most of the community seems to have mad that change as well, with many addons no longer being developed for Mambo.

I found this on their website..........

QuoteMiro Transfers All Rights to Mambo Open Source CMSToday, Peter Lamont, CEO of Miro, signed a legal deed granting to the Mambo Foundation the rights and interests in the Mambo name, logo, and associated trademarks

Although the loss of an entire development team was a setback, the Mambo community is both large and deep and the project has succeeded in attracting a group of experienced developers who believe strongly in the project and have ideas for substantial further progress.

Although a lot of effort went into fixing bugs for 4.5.3, at the same time the team was working hard on designs for future development.  In the early part of 2006 there will be release 4.5.4 which will continue the results of the consolidation process.  As the release numbering suggests, it will not contain major new features.  But it will go much further than simple bug fixing, with many parts of the code being completely overhauled.

So it looks like Mambo will move forward. But the core team is now joomla....

joomla

Well,
We 'made' mambo, and now we are making Joomla... so.. if you liked what Mambo was.. Joomla is just a continuation of that.

Besides.. we run SMF on the Joomla forums :) http://forum.joomla.org

Don't worry joomla/Brad, I may not be much help but I post where I can :)

I am currently using Joomla ... it is cool for someone who doesnt know any script languages. But one issue ... the inner frame seems so small that my SMF forum doesnt fit ... it means words might be missing due to the table squeezed to fit the inner frame.

Any tips on how to modify the frames?

Which template are you using ? .. The answer might be to get a better template.

Tiramisu

The original one Rhuk SolarFlare II
