Can all forum message posts emailed?

I manage a small boat forum on yahoo groups - we've grown so big that we need to get off yahoo.  We've got server space and the host has all the required support software, etc., etc.

Many of our current members interact with the group strictly via email - they receive the individual posts via email and respond via email.

When I made the announcement that we were moving a great hue and cry went up (from at least 3 or 4 individuals >:( ) that they would be sorely hurt if they couldn't use email and had to visit the discussion board via the web.

Enough background.  I've used several different search terms around email and they don't return any relevant hits, and is wasn't specifically covered in the 'features' section.

So my question is this: does SMF (native or with hacks) support full email interactivity from the membership of my forum?

Thanks

This Topic is EXACTLY (well almost exactly) what I am running into with my new board - the existing yahoo group still wants emails -

They want the posts to be emailed to the group - not a link to the posts, the posts themselves...

is this possible?

Here is what one of my members has said:

Lainaan.b.- I hate to say it, but as long as the listserv is active, the message board won't get traffic. I've transferred three different
organizations from listserv to forums, and each time it's taken over
a year and the death of the listserv to get people to move. Perhaps
one of the tech gurus can add a Mail-to feature. This functions as a
listserv from within the board so that people can post and read
EITHER from within it or from their email. Unlike the listserv,
however, users subscribe to particular subforums (i.e., arts council,
fundraising, etc.). In this way NONE of us has to read anything
we find unimportant, uninteresting, or uncomfortable. Everyone wins

IS there something that does this?   I was told there is a program called MAIL2 for php...  does it work?  Has anyone used it?

Thanks in advance for any responses....

EDITED TO ADD - after a bit of research, I found that there are a few threads dealing with this issue and that  it has been asked to be a new feature, but declined.  Also, the Mail2 persons seem to be working on making it compatible with SMF but so far it is not (?)  at least that is my current understanding after looking at all this ...

It seems we all have the same problem in common - some people want to stick with their Yahoo user groups...  bah I say !!
