OK.

I've been sitting here for months gawping, "Oooo"ing and "Aaaaah"ing at some of the fantastic graphics that many of you come up with.
So, my question is:

"For a novice like myself who's keen to start creating acceptable graphics, which graphics application would you recommend I spend my pennies on?"

Any feedback would be appreciated :)

While the answer ultimately depends on a number of considerations (such as your budget and what you want to do), my personal recommendation would be XaraX1. But I'd also download IrfanView (which is free) for its very useful viewing and processing capabilities.

Well...for the coding stuff, any editor will do. I use PHP Expert Editor - tried a few and this one beats the rest.

Graphics program...any will do really, as long as it has some form of layer capability. Photoshop is expensive of course, but there are many others. I have been using the Gimp for a while, before buying Photoshop 7. Take a look at this list for other freewares...you will find the Gimp for windows in here too.
