converting a phpBB forum to SMF, uploading the backup of the converted forum

I run an SMF forum, and a friend of mine uses phpBB.

Since his forum is much larger than ours, we are going to convert his to SMF, make a backup, and then upload the backup to model98.org.

The phpBB forum has about 1000 members and around 50,000 posts. has a forum been seemlessly converted at this size?

Also, what does the backup restore? all we want is posts, members, threads, etc restored. we want to keep my theme, all settings, and everything else on model98.org the same.

will this work out right? im really at a lost when it comes to converting.
