changing color of main tab?

i tried searching, but you wouldn't believe what changing color in main tab would bring up!

i am using 1.1rc2 with the default theme and i am trying to get the color of the main tab changed without losing the actul border shape. i tried /* */ around the image then added a back ground color but that just makes an ugly plain square box. will i need to change the actual color of the gifs for each part of the tab then upload them?

Have you thought about using one of the premade colour variations? Default Theme Color Variations 1.1 RC2
