why Chinese Character cannt be display correctly?

Spaceman-Spiff

use a different charset, the recommended one is UTF-8, but you can also use others for chinese: http://www.w3.org/International/O-charset-lang.html

in the forum template (assuming you're using yse), edit this line: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" />

seaspirit

I have tried ,but that's of no use

when I post in Chinese,it become:

&#20013;&#25991;&#27979;&#35797;

When I changed the iso-8859-1 in my forums.no [nofollow] change happened.

any url to your forum so we can see if there's something wrong?

here's a test for chinese/japanese characters: http://omanga.monkey-pirate.com/index.php?board=26;action=display;threadid=1419
using UTF-8

seaspirit

this is my forums:
http://seaspirit.to-j.com/forums/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=5 [nofollow]

By the way, does the yabbse support unicode characters.maybe that make this err happened.

Spaceman-Spiff

hmm... it's weird, i have no problems at all in my forum

maybe its the XHTML, try changing the first line of your template with:<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

seaspirit

It doesnt work still.

Before the Ibp had the same question, but they said that when their new edition suppored unicode characters, the problem was soved.

By the way,is the fourms software for  http://omanga.monkey-pirate.com/index.php [nofollow] supplied to download?

for some reason, when i go to your forum, the browser encoding is always set to western (ISO-8859-1)
if i go to my forum, it's unicode (UTF-8)
i dont know yet what happens, i manage to post chinese characters though if i sent my browser to UTF-8 when posting

I havent installed any mods!

I think that some one mod that you installed make your forum supports Chinese, but you didnt konw that.
I also think that it's nothing to do with using ISO-8859-1 or  UTF-8,IPB had once also the same problem, but now they using ISO-8859-1,but the Chinese character can be supported.

Spaceman-Spiff

i dont think it has anything to do with the mods that i installed
here's another test in my test forum: http://www.monkey-pirate.com/php/test/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=11
it works fine too

the problem is, somehow, when i go to your site, the browser encoding is always set to english (ISO)
but if i go to my site, it becomes UTF-8 automatically
i was able to post in your forum in chinese, but i have to change the encoding in my browser first to UTF-8 or Big5
you can view the chinese characters if you change your encoding to those above
http://seaspirit.to-j.com/forums/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=5

i cant figure it out yet why your site does this...

i just installed a clean YaBB SE 1.5.4 forum: http://www.monkey-pirate.com/php/clean/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=2
the only thing i changed is the charset in the template, and i enabled guest posting

you can try posting yourself in chinese there

Spaceman-Spiff

sorry, i dont really understand your last post...

seaspirit

I wanna say that your clean yabbse forum and your test forum have the same questions with my forums, that is when you dont change your brower, the Chinese cannot display correctly.
but your first forum can display chinese correctly without changing your brower.
I think that the mod that your installed for your first forum make Chinese character display correctly.
do you understand me now?

Spaceman-Spiff

i can go to my clean-installed forum: http://www.monkey-pirate.com/php/clean/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=2 and read see the chinese characters without changing the browser character coding, only in your website i have to.
Can you try to post some chinese characters in my forum above without changing anything in the browser?

Spaceman-Spiff

is to-j.com a redirection service, or actually the webhost?

seaspirit

it's a free webhost.

and where are you from?
Can you speak Chinese?

Spaceman-Spiff

i dont speak chinese and i dont have a lot of experience in using different charsets. i also don't know why your site acts like that to the browser.  i'm only guessing that it's your host. i am suspicous because its a free hosting without advertisements, popups, etc. there's gotta be a string attached...

it's a free php, mysql host with "unlimited" bandwidth: www.myjspace.com
i've never seen something like that before...
or maybe there's just some extra settings that you need to do that i dont know... -_-

seaspirit

do you say you are using the free host in www.myjspace.com [nofollow]?

I'm moving this to general discussion, although it's already builtin so to speak.
