Joomla 1.0.5
smf 1.0.5
bridge 3.19a

I have Joomla and SMF on seperate dbs.  When I configured my site it made sense to have the same usernames and different passwords.  From the few threads I have found this wasn't the greatest of ideas.  My problem, as has been stated, is that I can't login to joomla's frontend admin using the smf login module and my Joomla admin name and pword.    I can log in just fine with the smf name and password, but that won't let me touch anything in joomla.  What changes do I need to make or can I make that will enable me to login with one password and username and be admin of both joomla and smf at the same time?

chaneg your joomla username in the backend to match your SMF username...

Login using the bridge login module and the SMF Password.

the passwords will sync up when you log in with the birdge login module.

I keep getting this username/password is already in use

hmmm...
1) did you alreayd log in using the bridge login?
(in which case, a user would have been created in joomla with your SMF username...)

if not, are you 2) using Firefox with "autocomplete" turned on?

No I haven't been using firefox for anything other than a quick view to see what a page looks like.

I'm not sure how to describe what i have done (to make things worse probably, lol) but i'll try

To begin with:
original login info for joomla was x (name) and y (pass)
original login for smf was x (name) and z (pass)

When I bridged I was actually afraid a problem would arise if the names were the same so I changed the smf name

So ... new setup is then
joomla: x (name) and y(pass)
smf: a(name) and z(pass)

I couldn't ever login with the joomla info but I could login with smf info.  This of course created that user in joomla.

I have since deleted that user in joomla (not sure why i did but it seemed like the beginning of a good idea).  i can still login to smf through the bridge.  however the user is not re-created in Joomla.

hope this helps a little... :)

Can I change my admin username/password for SMF to match the one in Joomla using phpmyadmin.

I can't do it through the joomla backend without getting the 'this username/password is already in use message' and changing it through SMF still doesn't give me access to the Joomla frontend.

If I can change it using phpmyadmin, How do I do that?  I'm a definite noob to the software.

Kindred

no, you can not change the SMF password through phpmyAdmin...

Why don't you change the joomla one in phpmyAdmin, though?

How would I do that, just copy and paste the smf info into the joomla database?

Kindred

no...   edit the joomla user to the correct username and email....   edit the password to match the SMF password, using the MD5 option...

Problems arise if they are NOT the same....

I really hate to ask such stupid questions, but what do you mean md5 option.  I can find that when I go to the edit screen, but from there I'm lost...

TicTic

Do I type it in as I would in the front end or do I type it in as it phpmyadmin makes it appear?

I had the same problem once... using PHPmyAdmin change your Joomla password.
Get yourself to the Joomla user table.
It should be jos_users, by default.
Browse it, find your name & edit the password. Type in you password in the value box, but in the Function box make sure to select "MD5" this will set you up.

My question is, can you deleate a user out of the joomla table & let the bridge re-insert it when they log back in?? One of my users found a lil bug with the lost password... When you have your PW emailed to you, SMF lets them back in, but joomla does not.(for higher than normal users, IE editors & admins) I tried it out & locked myself out of the back end...lol
