In your FTP client chmod (right click "permissions") on the folder and set it to 777 then try again :)

An Error Has Occurred!
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory is not writable!

MollyBawn

As stated before, you need to start a new thread.
The only thing php can't do is tell you how much milk is left in the fridge.

Please *do not* alter the copyright in that manner.  When it is ready to be changed, it will be changed.

Cool..I love this forum software!  :)

I just have to install this. It looks much better than Invision Power Board!

Okay, I think mine is upgraded to 1.0.6 okay now.
When I ran the upgrade, it showed "Failed" on Sources/LockTopic.php and Source/Memberlist.php and
the stuff about "please ftp in and chmod".
The smf_1-0-6*tgz in my Packages dir was < 5k in size.
I edited LockTopic.php and Memberlist.php to make change "Software Version" to remove the "RC2"  and then the "Failed" msgs went away.
Should I download the 1.0.6 tarball and extract, diff, cp these two files to be safe?

I chown -R apache.apache the Sources dir, but the "chmod" msg persisted, so I chmod -R apache.apache the whole smf install.  Then it was happy.

I don't want my php files to be writable by apache, just in case anybody finds a security hole, so I chown -R the smf install back to another acct after completing the upgrade.

Seems okay, now.  Should I be concerned?
Should I consider upgrading to 1.1?

mr oizo

Mine too upgraded, so far all works good :D

That's exactly what I was wondering.... Is there an ETA on the release version for 1.1?

Grudge

1.1 will be a few months away most likely.
I'm only a half geek really...

I spent much of today preparing for the upgrade from 1.0.5 to 1.0.6. I performed all maintenance on my forum, backed up everythings (files and database) and noted down a bunch of threads here describing problems with upgrading and how to fix them. I probably spent nearly two hours doing all of this.

Then I did the upgrade.

And it lasted about 35 seconds. No problems whatsoever, completely smooth, error-free. Am now at 1.0.6. Took the forum out of Maintenance Mode and it's back to normal...

I know so many posts are about problems and I just wanted to post about how easy this upgrade was for me. Just like not backing up is a good way to ensure you'll have problems, I guess one way to make sure things go OK is to be completely prepared for a problem to happen.

If that is so I'd say anyone who has not updated to 1.0.6 and had a heavy modded forum at 1.0.5 stay away from 1.0.6

Hosed my board up good for something that was suppose to be basically a security fix.

When I said train wreck earlier that was a understatement. Tempted to go to rc2 for my test rc2 is in better shape than this 1.0.6  >:(

1.0.6 is just a security fix for the 1.0.x line.
The 1.1 x is newer. Can not wait for 1.1 final. Tired of all the 1.0. x issues  :(
