After 1.06 upgrade img tags are broken

After I upgraded to 1.06 it appears that a number of users had the

Code Select Expand

[img] tages broken in their post.  Image end up like this

[img]http://example.com/image.jpg[img][/img] the user says they have not modified the post and there is no "modified" date on the post.

Any ideas on how this happened and a good way to clean it up?
