i think the spellcheck.js is just a script that tells it how to use the built-in php function to check spelling.  but the dictionary and the rest is done by the php spell-check function on your server, if they have it enabled.

Jeff Lewis

If your host doesn't have pspell installed and PHP configured to use it, it won't show up. When I added the feature, in the admin area is a question mark beside the spellcheck option. Click it and it should tell you if it's enabled or not on your host.

Heh, imagine if the dictionary was stored in spellcheck.js - it'll be huge!

I guess I'll go email my host then and ask them to install it. This is rather annoying in my opinion.

Great work you guys !!

Is it possible to upgrade into a testfolder, or is it just possible to upgrade into the "live" board ?

I have numerous mod's built in, and the table-structures has been changed dramatically during the installations of all these mods.
I want a "clean" database, so maybe you know some steps for me (and others) to follow ?

You know this is my situation as well. Infact, right now I am uploading a backed-up version of my SE 1.5.4 and get it fully functioning in a temp dir. Then I will test this 'upgrade' option. I have hacked my board up so much there must be no way an upgrade will work. And if it does then I fear it won't be as stable as the full install version.

Webby, I'll let you know how my upgrade goes.

And for the SMF team: In addition to having a "full" upgrade option, could you also offer a "partial" upgrade. Specifically speaking, I would rather install a complete fresh version, and then run an upgrade package that ONLY transfers over my old board / posts / user data / member list / date stamps / etc into the new version SMF? Do you see what I am saying?
This way I would feel 100% confident, won't have any errors, should be more stable (In my opinion however I don't know what the upgrade actually does yet), and I won't have to waste any one's time about how my upgrade messed up or Im having all these little errors here and there .....

Seriously I've dropped lines of my own code all over my board. I never use boardmod to install mods -- it won't work at all. So I've always manually added mods. So Im always tinkering around with things that maybe should have been left alone.

Machines Team: Comments?

All I really care about transfering over to the new board is just what's important, my posts and users.

Regards,
BigMike

BTW my board is doing well and currently has: almost 2k members / 25k posts / 3k topics

You should be annoyed with your host, not the software. On all of our hosting servers we have pspell installed and configured.

Sorry if I bugged you Jeff. It's just that this is the first time anybody has mentioned pspell, and we've all been using the spell check feature here for several months, so I guess a lot of us just assumed it was a built-in feature that didn't require any special addons. I don't think my host will give me any problems about this though, so hopefully I'll be able to use spell check soon.

you have to have pspell installed and configured.
http://uk.php.net/manual/en/ref.pspell.php

Im still trying to get it working on windows.

I don't think it will work on windows at all

The manual begs to differ
QuoteNote to Win32 Users: win32 support is available only in PHP 4.3.3 and later versions. Also, you must have aspell 0.50 or newer installed.
I meet both those requirments. I just dont know why its saying the data is wrong.

So make use of the new template system to change this...

When I try to back up my yabbse 1.5.5 database it says that the database is too large and can't do it.  Any tips?

pulpitfire

i think you can do it in chunks.  zip so many boards at a time.

There are a few ways to do this.. but a converter will be done later.

However, I recommend you make a copy of your database (you can back it up and then restore it elsewhere ;).) and upgrade that.
