I have looked for a solution of this and found some things but nothing that goes into the steps I need.

Ok I have installed SMF from my Fantastico and updated it to 1.0.6.
I have downloaded the invision2 to SMF converter and placed it in my SMF directory.

I have my IPB in mydomain.com/forum
I have my SMF in mydomain.com/forums

by default the sfm has installed a Database different then the ipb
Sorry first posted it in the General area then seen this area. Please delete the other one.

I have found the database password for the SMF and put it in the Password feild of the SMF Database password: box.

When I click continue I get the following message at the top of the screen in red:

Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of Invision Power Board 2. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it.

I would really like to change over from IPB 2.0.4 to SMF but do not want to loose all of my info in IPB.
I am kinda new to all this technical stuff but feel I can do it if pointed in the correct direction. Please help

Aaron

You should give SMF's database access to IPB's database first. You can give it access to it by going to cPanel (or something similiar) -> MySQL databases and look for a button labeled 'Add user to db'. Above it are two dropdown boxes. Choose the smf user and assign it to IPB's table. You should be able to convert after that.

Hope this helps,
Aaron.
