Convert PHPbb 2.0.17 to SMF 1.1 RC2

My problem is FIXED, but I already wrote all this data and thought it might be helpful to someone else. My fix was using cPanel to add a NEW USER to the phpbb mySQL db that matches the user for the newly installed SMF db. After that, everything went perfect! Most of you probably already knew that, but I didn't see that bit of info anywhere in the forums. Thanks to you guys for writing the converter. Now on to three more forum conversions . . .

Both installs are working and on the same server. First I uploaded and ran:
phpbb2_to_smf.php
and got error:

The installation of SMF in the path you specified is not a version this converter can deal with. If it is older than SMF 1.0, you need to upgrade first. If it is newer, you need to use a different converter.

CORRECT INSTALLATION / CONVERSION
Perused posts and uploaded these:
convert.php
phpbb2_to_smf.sql

and got error:

Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of phpBB2. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it.

The error MySQL gave was: SELECT command denied to user: 'redxxxx_smf@localhost' for table 'phpbb_users'

The screen only requests paths to the two installs and a PW for the SMF install. Evidently it needs the PW for the phpbb install?

Howdi, I am having the exact same sequence of events.

I am currently trying to add a new user to my phpbb mySQL that matches the user for my SMF db, however, my phpbb database won't let me add a user with the same name. i am trying to add the user within Dreamhost (my host), and it tells me that the username is already taken. it wont let me add the same user name twice. im fairly new to mySQL so maybe i need to try to add the user in another way. i dont know if i have cPanel...do i?

can i do it somehow in phpMyAdmin?
