I think that all mod programmers/writers should make there coding is to read with explainations on the function in the script. The reason is alot of these mods were tested & works on the default theme/setting. There's alot of ppl who maybe knows the basics of coding or mininmal to none. If the function in the coding was explained like which files need to be edited at around what line & add nondefault theme path here. It will make  alot of things easier on the user end (I know it's a little more work for the writer) and there would be less questions of "how do I for my theme or situation".

I use a clean way of coding <<.

And you see in the Package manger exacly what kind of files are changed... why more infos? If you know how the mod/xml files work you know what the mod do exactly.
And You can not say change this line and this line becuase each mod you use change the files... so this is not so simple. And also the Themes are diffrent (because they are from freetime writeres) so it would not work with lines. << (And if you insert this informations the most user ignore it and post before they reading it <<, or post because they don't know what they must do with it...).

People who want use mods must know what they doing, if they not knowing what they do they should not use it... (it's my thinking...).

And if you look at other forum softwares they have the same problems, so why should it diffrent in smf?

And i say it again and again moders spent his freetime for this, and this time is limited. They do his best to made a Mod avaible for SMF.

The source codes are very well commented, and for the complex functions, even with more commenting you wouldn't be able to understand them without reading more widely. As for the mods, well we can't control how people write their own code..

If your a "clean coder" then this topic wasn't meant for you.

For the most part I can read & change a few items in the mod to customize it for my theme/site.
But I have ran into a few that had me like WTF! Also it makes it easier for writers who want to improve an existing mod, port over from the other forum/site (ie: invision board, vbullentin, phpbb, jcms & etc) who aren't that familar with packaging smf mods.

Like I would like to port over an affiliate or a dating mod. So it would be like a "template" or a "standard" which is the problem of open source.

You made a statement
LainaaAnd if you look at other forum softwares they have the same problems, so why should it diffrent in smf?

The answer my friend is because SMF is different & such improvements would be one of many various reasons to set SMF apart from the rest.

Again, I guess I don't understand myself. The actual code of SMF is clean and clear and as for mod's I can understand your frustration as often the code is unclear and has bugs.

But as mentioned above we cannot really control how well mods are written.
