Won't Install
« on: February 20, 2006, 10:27:32 AM »
Obviously being a noob to MySQL and PHP etc this is not really my place to suggest things that aren't working, but I noticed this on one of my attempts to run install.php - I forgot to change the server name from localhost to which is what I believe is the server address, I recieved an error message below:
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

The thing is - On the Server Variables and Settings screen of the PHPmyAdmin I saw that the socket in use is:

Is there A) Any way that is not the valid server for the MySQL even though this is the server name on the PHPmyAdmin site for the MySQL site. B) Possible that this difference between the two socket values is preventing the installer from accessing the MySQL DB C) Any way that my ISP or I can change the socket value, as the CCGI and the MySQL servers are ISP maintained.

I have since my last post here changed all of the CHMOD for all of the site files to 755, and the install.php script still hangs at the following point install.php?step=1.

NOTE: I also tried accessing index.php and the following error is returned: "Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later."

Thanks for any help you guys can provide, as this is really important to me, as the forum is for a family POP site so that overseas family members can keep in touch.
