Any way to integrate SMF 1.0.6 and Joomla 1.0.8?

Hello Everyone, 
I am considerably new to both Joomla and SMF, but I have grown considerably experienced in both of these. But since I saw you can integrate both as one I have been trying to do this any way possible. So my question ultimately is if there is any way to integrate SMF 1.0.6 and Joomla 1.0.8?
All I see is SMF 1.1.rc2 or SMF 1.1.rc1. Any help will be gladly accepted.
