Which chat if not IRC?

I have used the IRC chat mod in a previous install of SMF but my users didn't want to use it for reasons only they know.
I now have gtchat95 running on my site as well as SMF as board. Is there a way to combine both (I read some posts in search but they mainly mention to modify templatexy.php and having few to none knowledge about php and coding I have no clue what to do)?
If that is too complicated, which of the available chats works best and/or is most similar to gtchat (if you know that chat).

I like to find a way so that users don't have to login for each and every service seperately. Same would go for the gallery 4images but that is a different topic.

Jabber is good although IRC is still the most popular standard.

I fail to see how your users cannot like IRC, it all depends on the user friendlyness of the client they were using.

Were you using a web-client or mIRC (or a similar stand-alone)?

                              I recommend:
Namecheap (domains)
Fastmail (e-mail)
Linode (VPS)

TechnoDragon

There ia also the possibility of using FlashChat...I use it at my forum and it integrates and runs very well.
Don't tell me to get into shape...I have a shape...It is round!

Huvnet, I totally agree.
Unfortunately my users don't. I guess they are just used to simply click on something and it works while IRC sometimes requires a bit of knowledge. Although with PJirc it was really easy as pie.´

The only reason speaking against IRC is that it is often blocked by schools, work etc. while a web based chat works as long as java or js is enabled.
