I'm using the Simplicity theme, if that makes a difference to this question.

I'd like to sort the messages in a topic form in chronological order with the oldest first, the newest last.

In my mind this is an FAQ, so apologies in advance. I've been through the settings pages until my eyes bugged out. I've searched the FAQs, the forums and I've googled without finding my question answered.

Doesn't it do that by default?

If you go to:
Profile >> Look and Layout >> Show most recent posts on top.,
it will sort sort the newest messages first, oldest last. So, I think what you want is on by default. If there's a check in the box, then it means it's doing just that, showing the newest first, oldest last.

thanks for that.

Does that profile setting affect all users, or only the user making the change?

I think of profile as being the user's own settings, so I wasn't looking in there for settings that would affect everyone.

That only affects that member.

Yeah, as an admin, there is a setting to have them sort newest first, oldest last. It works the same way as doing it in the profile, but will reset it for all members.:

Admin >> Themes and Layout >> Reset Options >> Show most recent posts at the top.

Admin >> Themes and Layout >> Reset Options ??

I can't see Reset Options. I can only see "Reset Everyone to [pop-up list of themes]"

OK ...

Admin >> Themes and Layout >> Reset Options >> Choose your theme >> Choose which ever you want to change: Reset default (guest) options for this theme or Reset all member's current options for this theme >> Change Show most recent posts at the top. to however you want it.

Thanks for helping.

I can't see Reset Options", really, I did a "find" for "reset" on the page.

The best I can see is this.

Admin >> Current Theme Settings >> Theme Options & Preferences > Reset member specific options for all members

and that seems to work.

Good.

Which version are you using, by the way?

fifif

The board is Powered by SMF 1.0.6.   :)

OK. That would be why. I don't have 1.0.6 installed, I was looking at 1.1 RC 2. So, it'll be different, but similar enough.
