Need help with Language conversion Yabb SE to SMF
« on: March 16, 2004, 09:14:08 PM »
First of all please don't mind my (suk'in)English... :-[

Dear Developpers and you guys out there,

All that's significant are in BOLD FACE text.

Could anyone help me please. I kinda need a correct mapping
between VARs in the Yabbse '[language].lng' file
and the VARs in SMF style (*.[language].php).

ummm ... do you understand what I mean heheh  :D ...

It's just like this...

I have my own version (Translated almost all by myself) of .lng files,
2-3 of those as a matter of fact, which I translated and used the words
and sentenses that match my board's style, cartoon and something sexy ;),
So I'm too regret to drop it.

Then I looked in those new SMF language files *.english.php, many of those Yabb VARs
still be utilized, only that they were seperated and name changed.

So, I started to work(very boring one), find, copy and paste, in a while
my laziness kick out...
then I decided to build a PHP script to do the job, and yes finally,
after couple Sunday hours it's done (heheh programming is more interesting than find copy paste anyway)

It can convert my yabb se such as "thai.lng", "funnyeng.lng" to those  SMF *.thai.php, *.funnyeng.php,

yet it can only convert the VARs that have the same name['key'].
It left those unkonwn matching VARs as the same in those *.english.php.

And I realized that many of the Yabb SE VARs have their name changed in SMF,
but too bad I'm not so sure which is which...

So this is my request:

Could you please give me the matching or mapping table
between Yabbse VARs and SMF VARs. in those language files, so I can make
a correct mapping table to be used in my conversion and translation script.

for example:

Yabb SE           SMF
$txt['yse1'] = $txt['smf1']
$txt['yse5'] = $txt['smf5']
$txt['yse8'] = $txt['smf8']
.
.
.

and so on...

By the way can I assume that those yabbse 'txt[]' that have the key 'yse#' are equal to
the SMF 'txt[]' => key 'smf#'

Just a great hope that you guys developpers may have this kind of document on hand already.
This mapping table will be an excellent help when I do my mod conversion as well.

Cheers,
JZ. the whiterabbit..

.........

PS:

BTW if anyone has your own Yabbse language file that u don't wanna lose it,
and may want to try my script just tell me so I may find a place to upload it..

But... it's not suitable for anyone who have zero kowledge in PHP.
The SMF language files that come out of the script need to be tuned up and modified
to make them work, but it's not too difficult; I can convert and make it work
within 10 minutes ;) .. with help of grep anf vi ;)

I must warn you that many language strings have changed!  Just because they have the same key does not mean they mean exactly the same thing.

Yes I know and I check them back with the original SMF english file,
(script also generate a logfile on any suspicious vars though)

That why I said ... need to be modified ;) to make it work....

but it help me since I have 2-3 different lng files  ;)  and using file compare is redude translation time alot

and that one of the reasons why I need a correct mapping of the vars, so that
I will know which are equal or not  :D

BTW  ... Is that much different between the yabb vars and the smf vars..

In many cases, much is different.  And, besides the ones with the same keys there are probably very few that are the same.  (by coincidence.)

:D Thanks alot ...  got the idea.

At least I have a good place to start the translation though,
since the script generated exactly the same skeleton as the original SMF english files.
(with some coincidence inside heheh  :P)

but by any chance you have the mapping ....   :D heheh nono.. it didn't hurt to ask, right?

umm.. I just realized that this post shuld be in coding area or some sort, right?

so .. sorry if it in the wrong place :-[
