Hi all,

Have been using SMF for a couple of months now and I am really satisfied with it. Great job!  ;)

Since my board is meant for users to share/swap recipes, I wonder if there is way of compiling/archiving the recipes for easy reference? Is there already such a mod?

Thanks in advance,
Mellie

Kindred

the recipies are in posts?

there is nothing that will compile a list of specific posts to an external source...

Hi Kindred, thanks for the prompt reply.

Yes, the recipes are in the post (under various categories). What would you suggest?

Kindred

honestly, I do not think there is anything I can suggest...  except manually copying the recipies out of the posts to a text file or another script...

As I noted, there is no way to really take individual messages from different boards/categories and "archive" them to a specific location.

(I do the opposite. I have a recipe component installed in Joomla and and working to get all recipies entered in the component to post as messages on the forum.)

Interesting interesting... what´s the name of the recipe component which you installed? And how did u integrate it with smf?

Thanks in advance,
mellie

Kindred

it's only partially integrated with SMF at the moment...  I'm working on a tighter link.

It actually runs under joomla (I have my SMF bridged to Joomla)

cool... and what is the name of the recipe component again?

I was thinking of using tiny portal with smf.... if that will solve my problem? Partially even?! haha..... Didn´t install joomla on the server, only smf.

Kindred

The component is the Prince Clan Cookbook component (com_PCCBOOK)

there is also a commercial recipe component called com_recipe

Thanks kindred.... one more question b4 I drive you nuts, how did you integrate it with smf?

Thanks in advance,
Mellie

I added a call in the "create recipe" code to call the "make a new post" function in SMF. So that when a new recipe is add to the cookbook, it also adds a post with the recipe in a specific board of the forum.

I am working on modifying the edit recipe function to update the existing post.

When I have somethign stable, I'll be talking with the author of the cookbook component (who is actually a user of SMF as well) about releasing a special smf integrated version. (although it will still require joomla or mambo as well)

If you could install tinyportal you could let your users submit recipes like they could submit articles

SMF 7 is where it gets good. That has time travel. You can go back and post before the guy who flamed you. :P

Thanks for the suggestion, Alan S. The prob is that the forum users also want the search function ( as can be found in many cooking/recipe websites), where you can search recipes according to main ingredients.

Ooh... that sounds exciting!!! Can hardly wait till you get it to work stabily. Any idea when that will happen? Installing joomla/mambo shouldn´t be a prob. I just didn´t see the need for it when I started the cooking forum. If you´re interested to have a look at it, just pop over to hxxp:www.nurkochen.de [nonactive]

Well...   When the new mambo/joomla->smf bridge is released I'll be testing that for a short time...   and I have to finish the release of the PhatCalendarPack for SMF.

After that I will have more time to dedicate to the recipe modifications. :)   Probably sometime around June at this point.    :-\

I have all the patience in th world to wait till June.... only my users are making too much noises at the moment... I hv to divert their attention to something else, like maybe trying out new recipes?! hahaha...
