Hosting a YabbSE

How hard would it be for me to give it to like all the hosts I can find?

Can anyone give me the source to cpanel (is that legal?) so I can figure out how to make an autoinstaller?

Pretty sure there is some documentation around for making autoinstallers. I can try to help get that informations after work. You can also have cpanel access to my host if this helps.

I think you can build an installer in php or perl and download a skin and build it in and then ask the server admin if your not the admin but a reseller to install the theme. but cPanel skins get big, I started building one for xtram but I takes some time.

all the information is passed to the pages like this: <cpanel langprint="INDXGenAccountInfo">
I have the default skin if you need but it's 1.5mb.

I personally suggest people not to use the autoinstallers in cpanel because they are always updated with the newest version of that script very late. Imagine like now instead of YaBB SE 1.4.0 1.5.4 would be included in the next cpanel update. That isn't good. Not to mention the fact that most scripts are quite easy to install anyways so a autoinstaller only purpose is that it takes less time.

Well I think the problem is the people at cpanel are not updating. If updating will be up to you I don't think there will be a problem.
Auto update would be perfect.

This is all I heard about it:

You'd need to edit your skin and add a line on the addon scripts page to a PHP script. You will then need to program that PHP script to automatically uncompress and install the script.

I agree and personally wouldn't use it.  However, I have clients that find it very useful because they don't have to do anything but click a button and fill in blanks. 

And if your host actually pays and updates the installer regularly, it's not that far behind.  I think a lot of hsots buy it initially to advertise and don't keep it updated. 

There's a new version to be released very soon of the one I use and it's already pretty current.  But overall, I agree with the point about installing things yourself if you can.

My understanding is CPanel does not include these auto installers.  Rather a program, an addon, Fantastico does.  You could try e-mailing the CPanel folks though, ask for Nick.

I'm with you there...I use the autoinstaller from cpskins.com but I don't think cpanel has it's own at all.

If [Unknown] wants to make one, more power to him, but I can't imagine the task of coding that, and more importantly, integrating it into cpanel considering the hosts would have to upload those files and that that would confine you to one specific skin whereas there's tons of them outthere...

In my opinion, it could do wonders for promoting the board. In my cpanel, they've got a forum autoinstaller...for phpBB. (yuckickyyuck!!!) So when SMF comes out, if it started getting packaged with cpanels in some hosts, when people said, 'I want a forum! Look! There's one already configured in my cpanel, that's cool!' And then they'll install it. Happiness insues. I honestly would have never heard of YaBB SE when I first started looking for software had it not been for a very small site I loved going to... I clicked the little YaBB SE copyright at the bottom and the rest was history. Originally I probably woulda went for vB since that's what I'd been most exposed to. (ickyyuckicky!!!)

Right, phpBB comes with my autoinstaller too, it's a third party add-on to cpanel.  That's my point.  In theory it'd be great, but the problem is that cpanel is like an OS if you want to think of it that way, and for every different skin out there (or wallpaper if you want to continue the metaphor) (and believe me there are tons) you'd have to add that autoinstaller coding.  Well, first you'd have to have a third party autoinstaller installed, but then you'd have to add yse (or smf) to that.  All your users would have to have the same skin to have access to it, or you'd have to edit ALL your skins.  And that cpanel upload has to be done DIRECTLY to the server...you can't install it to your own shared or reseller account...it would need to be done in root.

It'd be easier to create a non-cpanel autoinstaller, which is just what the normal install program is

Either that, or better yet, petition all the creators of autoinstaller scripts to get them to add YSE/SMF in their options.  Most will do it if they get enough requests.

Hey, I'm all for it!  I think it would be GREAT marketing if you can do it.  I just don't think a lot of people here have the ability to install their own skins.  I'd hate for you to waste hours of time for no purpose.

I think you'd be better off talking to some of the autoinstaller companies (because I don't think Skin designers have anything to do with autoinstall functions) and see what they would require to integrate into their scripts.  That way they might be able to let you know what they'd need you to write so they could just take your code and files and drop it in.  I'm sure they'd be more than willing to do that if you take out the part where they have to actually do work

cPanel is not free and I did contact them about this and they you can get it installed but it won't work unless you have a license.
