Installing Mods

I haven't managed to install a single mod successfully . I found it easy with vBulletin, maybe I'm just a bit spoilt. Either the instructions are too vague or there is no support thread to ask for help . No matter what I do something always seems to go wrong, whether its Package install or manual. E.g. Earlier I tried to install the Arcade mod only to find a virtually blank Admin page for it. Anyone got any advice? Just can't get the hang of SMF mods.

What were the steps you went through? What were the problems you were having? Any specific error messges giving you trouble?

The instructions were:

1. Open arcade.xml (1.0.x) or arcade2.xml (1.1 Beta 3) or arcade3.xml (1.1 RC1)
2. Apply edits
3. Run arcade_sql.php
4. Upload Games

So I did that but it didn't tell me where to upload the files so I guessed, and I ended up with an Arcade Admin screen consisting of:

1.2.4 
1.0.0   
1.0.0

I'm totally stuck

Instead of editing the files manually you can try installing using the package manager in the SMF admin area.

Admin >> Packages

Ok I installed the Simple Mood mod using the package manager. I go to my profile, change my mood, save changes but it doesn't save. I'm close to giving up on mods lol, they just don't seem to want to work for me.

Did the package install give any errors?

Any errors in the error log?

I have also trouble with installing mod. I tried the mod 'Quick Upload 2.1'.

When i examine the problem, there are some troubles and wrong points.
The files and directories are not writable (dirs:755 and files:644). But there is no install log visible what is exactly going wrong.

The manager tells me that modification is a success. Extracting files has no success indicator behind. It's empty.
Three needed files are not moved to the location.

The FTP windows is visible below the status, but when i typed my login and password there, and click at proceed.... page reload, nothing changed. No any FTP error message, nothing! I check with WinSCP at my server, and see indeed nothing added or changed.

De modifications are succeeded in status, but i see nothing in the files. Nothing added.

That means the verify routines in the script are bad. They just checked not deep enough for errors. I'm not happy with mod install system with almost nothing one error message. That is very bad.
I have chmod needed directories and files to 777, but nothing changed.

Tell me, what is going wrong? Why is detection system not strong enough? They said already success, but there is nothing changed. Very wrong!

Where is the error log? According to the installation, everything was successful except the images which I uploaded myself
