What is important for succesful installing mods?

When i tried with install for example Quick Upload 2.1 mod at 1.0.7 forum, the status log tells the php files are succesfully executed, but there is no succes messages by copying 3 files.
When i tried with chmod needed files to 777, and directories too, it won't work.

And FTP function doesn't work. Nothing good happens.
Something is wrong with installing system. And all files and directories are correctly chmodded.

But now i want know why the copying don't work, why the some php files are not changed (no code added) and why FTP function don't give any success message.

I'm asking you, devvers, why it don't work...
The wrong status messages "success" when there is nothing happens don't make me happy.

Because i cannot see detailed install logs, i cannot see what is going wrong.
What must i do, and what checks the install systems to make it successful? And why don't FTP function work? Is FTP function always visible or not?

You may say about the package system. I'm kinda crazy about not working system at my forum.

The package manager works fine when you have the right permissions for the folders etc involved in the install. Generally speaking as long as you don't other mod's installed and the correct permissions mods install without a problem.

Sometimes though the way your server is configured say for example if you have mod_security installed often prevents the smooth install of packages, as does attempting to install packages that are not compatible with your version of SMF.

The only reason I can imagine that your ftp does not work correctly is probably a permission issue with a file or folder your attempting to modify via the package manager.

In short, check the files and folders required to be modified and change them to 777 or 755. You will need to change these back after the package manager has made the changes though. You should be fine after that. This assumes though your server does not have other security measures that prevent the package manager working smoothly.

Hopefully this helps.

I´ve the same situation. I only need to chmod to 777 the files that will be changed, right?

Or i need to change anything else...
