I get lots of 404 errors on titleback.gif when I create a new theme and leave the image url set to the default theme.

file not found  .../Themes/theme1/images/titleback.gif

It just uses $settings['theme_url'].  Are you sure you have it set to use the default theme URL not the theme1 one?

This is how it is set.

This theme's URL:  ...smf/Themes/theme1
This theme's images URL: ...smf/Themes/default/images
This theme's directory: ...smf/Themes/theme1

There are only 4 files in the theme1 dir.
help.css
index.php
index.template.php
style.css

titleback.gif is the only file giving a 404 error.  I also noticed that there is also a titleback.jpg.  It is the only jpg in the images directory.  Is that a clue?

Doesn't really help me.  Can you give me a url?

The theme is called "New Theme".  It's not currently selected so you would have to log in and select it to see it.

Alright, I was looking at the wrong file - it is using the theme URL not the images URL.  Fixed.

I am having the same problems. Is this something that we can change, or is it just a bug in the software somewhere? Just wondering??

Thanks so much

Just make the darn file if you're so worried... it's the image used for the catbg.  It's in style.css.
