Adding Mods and How Many

I am new to having my own board but I am an admin on an IPB board and have friends who have their own boards.

My question is how many mods can safely be added to SMF and does the board remain stable.

A couple of my friends have added mods to their boards and the board then became unstable and caused page cannot be displayed errors and downtime that could have been related to security holes caused by adding the mod.

Because of this I am very leary about adding mods but have seen a few for SMF I would like to add like the warn mod, online today mod just to nqame a couple. I am still exploring that section.

I have only had SMF installed a short time and still learning it's features and I must say I like this software. There are a few things that I would like to see permenantly added to future releases but that goes in another section and will post there as well.

Overall I am very happy with SMF and will have no problem recommending it to anyone wants to add a board.

You can add as many as you like and it should remain pretty stable. But with RC2 there are some bugs in it, so dont worry if you spot any, report them here instead, I have 20 mods running on my forum on RC2 and it runs fine.

Hope that helps

It depends on what mods you want to add.

Some mods are massive and have a big impact on the whole forum, like TinyPortal. Some are pretty small and only add a little bit of aesthetic changes or something else that will only impact the forum minimally. Some are only called when you click on a button or visit a certain page, like the Member Map, except for the button you'd add to the index.

There's a wide range of how the mods would affect the software.

The only mods I plan on adding in the near future are ones to make it easier for the mods and admins.... :D

Online today mod
Warning members mod

Just stuff that is accessable to the admins and mods of the site nothing huge.

There are only a few boards that can be posted in as I have set up a user created content downloads directory for Zoo Tycoon to direct visitors to sites where downloads are located. Most of the topics are locked and unpostable and regular member and guest permissions have been set to allow read only. So member user mods are not really needed right now.
