Editing the template?

Firstly, i'd like to say WOW!, having converted from IPB and phpBB, this software is so simple and what i need. The package manager saves loads of time - thanks for the effort.

Now, onto my requests.

I would like to edit my template so that the User Info, News Box and Key stats do now show and instead i would like to add another button for users to see new posts since their last visit to the links menu.

I've already removed the logo at the top of the page which was on index.template

Also, i would like to group all of the categories like phpBB does, so there is no space. How can i do this?

And I have managed to comment out all the other boxes but would like to replace the user info box with a BIG button saying "posts since last visit" (rather than some tiny link)... after all that is what 99/100 users do when they come back to my forum so I wanna make it easy (especially on the oldies with weak eyesight and less fingertip control to pick out a tiny underlined link  )
