Replacing the "new posts images" with background?

hey, i've seen it's possible in phpbb to remove the image that indicates if there is a new post in that forum or not be replaced with the entire <tr> background with a specific color.

if it's too vague; is it possible to change the background of the <tr> when there are new posts in that forum?
