BlessedBe

I have helped a friend upgrade their forum and I am positive that all files have been uploaded from the file I down loaded.

When I try and upgrade php I get this.

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'sweepsta_smf1'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/sweepsta/public_html/upgrade.php on line 59

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/sweepsta/public_html/upgrade.php on line 59

This is the link I use for the upgrade

http://sweepstakescanada.net/upgrade.php

Can someone help please.

Thank's in advance.

Make sure that the information in Settings.php is correct.

Make sure that the information in Settings.php is correct.

ok this is what she has in settings.php

$maintenance = 0;      # Set to 1 to enable Maintenance Mode, 2 to make the forum untouchable. (you'll have to make it 0 again manually!)
$mtitle = 'Maintenance Mode';      # Title for the Maintenance Mode message.

$boarddir = '/home/sweepsta/public_html';      # The absolute path to the forum's folder. (not just '.'!)
$sourcedir = '/home/sweepsta/public_html/Sources';      # Path to the Sources directory.

EDIT:  I removed the password for database.

Make sure that that user has enough priviledges.  Go to your control panel and check.  The hosting control panel.

Ok when I go to the hosting control panel how do I know if the user has enough privledges. I know when I upgraded mine it was pretty straight forward. This one for some reason is a bit more confusing. lol

Thank's for all your help.

Are you using cPanel?

I did all this through ftp. I am in the process of trying to find out if she has cpanel as well.

JayBachatero

If she has cPanel you go to the MySQL database page and check the users permission.  Just allow all permissions.

Thank's Jay. I will let you know if that works. I am just about ready to pull my hair out. haha

BlessedBe

Well, I think it's time to give up. This is what her cpanel says

Users in sweepstasmf1
sweepsta_sweepst (Privileges: ALL PRIVILEGES)

So all are checked.

:'(

JayBachatero

I see the problem.  The database name is sweepstasmf1 not sweepsta_smf1.  Change that in the $db_name.

ack. I am a total noob at this. How do I change that.

I never had this much problems when I did my own forum upgrade.

I really thank you for all your patience with me Jay.

JayBachatero

In cPanel where you manage your database you can create users.  After you create the user there is a drop down that says add user to database.  You select the user you created and add it to the smf database.

Thank's for all your help Jay. I really appreciate it. :-*
