Restoring Forum from database alone

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I couldn't find anything exactly like this already asked, sorry If I overlooked it. I have made a few silly, yet major, mistakes with my installation of SMF - luckily, all the mySQL database information is undisturbed, but i deleted by accident all the SMF files from the domain (i know, i really messed up). I have been trying hopelessly for the past day to figure out how to restore my forum. Any suggestions? The database still has all the forum info.

My host wants to charge me $75 to restore this on their end from backup tapes. Thetre's got to be a better way?

Thank you,
Jer

Here's one that might actually work:

Install the same forum-software again, but this time with a DIFFERENT table-prefix. Default is "smf_", change it to "recover_" or anything else you like.

After installing, go to the admin-panel in your forum (Server Settings -> Database Tables Prefix), and change the prefix back to "smf_" ?

Now, I don't know wether this action will make your forum look to a different direction or that it will overwrite it, SO MAKE BACKUPS FIRST!! ;)

good luck!

Anakin

Okay, so this worked for the most part, but now I'm getting weird errors here and there.

For example, when someone posts a new topic, this error comes up:

Lainaa2: fsockopen(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known
File: /home/hijinx2/public_html/pix/Sources/Subs-Post.php
Line: 556

the topic is still created with out any problems, but instead of being redirected to the forum it puts up that error after they post. there are other similar errors i'm getting. Any idea what's going on their or how to get around it?

I'm using version 1.0.7
I ran the "Find and repair any errors." option but no errors were found

Double-check your email settings (Admin -> Edit Features and Options). That error means that PHP couldn't find an IP address for the mail server you entered.

wow, thank you so much for all your help. you two are life-savers!

of course, I still have another problem (I'm sorry! I'm just a bunch of questions!), I'm getting this error a lot when I try to do admin stuff.

LainaaDatabase Error: Unknown column 'cal.eventDate' in 'field list'
File: /home/hijinx2/public_html/pix/Sources/Calendar.php
Line: 297

I can't even go into my calender under "Edit Features and Options" to see if there' something there i could find, i just get that error.

also, on my mainpage at the bottom, i'm getting

LainaaTotal Members: 8: Undefined index: memberCount
File: /home/hijinx2/public_html/pix/Themes/classic/BoardIndex.template.php (eval?)
Line: 315

for the member count

I can't thank you enough for your patience. I'm sorry I'm so asking so many questions. If these have been answered somewhere else I apologize, just point the way to those answers.

also, this error when you try to look at a member profile:

LainaaDatabase Error: Unknown column 'mem.im_ignore_list' in 'field list'
File: /home/hijinx2/public_html/pix/Sources/Load.php
Line: 469

I sure hope there's a quick fix for this, or i might be just hunting down bugs the rest of my life!  :P

Don't know for sure, but could it be that you're running 1.0.x software against a 1.1.x database or vice versa? Seems like there are some things found in the database which the scripts don't know how to use?

Maybe you are running a modified theme? Does it also happen with the Default theme? Do you have any mods installed?
