An apparently serious install problem

I'm hosted on GoDaddy. I've uploaded all the SMF files via FTP in correct directories. When I try to run install.php the message is Page not found. However, the page where install.php resides IS there: I can see it in CuteFTP, including install.php and the Themes folder, etc.

What's more, by temporarily removing index.php and install.php then putting in an index.html file, "miraculously" the page is found.

What I can't figure is whether the problem lies when install.php tries to access SMF, or there's some problem on GoDaddy somewhere. Does anyone have any ideas?

Sometimes I really don't like computers very much...  :(

Second query. I've looked and looked till I'm fair worn out: if there really is such a thing as Package Manage in SMF *grin*, could some kind soul please tell me the exact URL where it resides. *hopeful*

I think you need to check your file permissions.

Try chmoding install.php to 777 and see if it pulls it up :)

Package manager is in the admin center (top left block) www.yoursite.com/forum/index.php?action=packages

PLEASE NOTE: SUCCESS!!

Thankyou so much, Tony!

I'm not exactly sure what happened as I tried so many different things to solve this problem, but suddenly I found myself connected to SMF, filled in the fields - and have now successfully installed SMF to my website. *excitement!*

As my success came via IE6, I do have some concerns that Firefox (latest) that I normally use may have had something to do with my problems, but probably not. I'm just glad it's all happened... at last!
