I was wondering if smf rc2 can do similar archive collection as: http://www.loadedinc.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-352.html

it would be quiet useful tool, and will save disk space, is this function available on smf? please reply

Trekkie101

How will it save disk space?

And yes it can, make a board called archive, set a custom basic theme forced for that board, and then dont allow posting in the board. Done :)

i don't know, i jus thought it migth save space... but like your idea... very smart alternative

Nik over @ webdigity just whipped up a beautiful archive...

I've got it implemented here8)

Very simple to use, jump on the Webdigity Forum... HERE!

And have a chat to Nik, it's quite a neat little setup.

Did i mention Nik is THE MAN and has one of the slickest implementations of TP / SMF going around  ;)

Cheers,

Archives are really worthless IMO. Having archived html files take up more space than the database would.

It is easier just to batch-lock old topics every now and then

Although that SEO mod nik has made looks really good and is a commonly requested mod. Please ask him to release it :D

Hello fellas,

This is Nik from webdigity or otherwise the guy who developed this mod.

Thank you very much for your kind words, it is very good to get some recognition for your work some times :)

About the archive script as you can see in the topic in webdigity that Miyagi linked in his post, I require two links to my sites on every page of the archive. I believe this is fair as I have worked a lot to make this script possible (and make it work on any server with any php version)

But I think this would not allow me to release it through the official mod site of SMF. Is that right?

Also have in mind that I can give this script to anyone that has no problem with my terms. If you want it just drop me a line to [email protected]

Regards,

Nikolas

Sorry for the double post.

Forgot to mention that the script works fine with SMF 1.0.x and 1.1 and now I am trying to make it work with redirection boards also :)

An update about the archive:

I just managed to make a package file, so you can get it from here :

http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=341

If you are allready using the script, please make a review there also :)
