What about something to edit the tables and things like that in smf?
Because I don't have access to phpMyadmin, and nothing else either :(

Ben_S

You could always download and install phpMyAdmin yourself?

my host doesn't allow phpMyadmin :'(

* Erik™ wonder why they doesn't...

Ben_S

Why wouldn't they allow it, it's just a script. How do they expect you to manage your database?

Do they allow CPanel? Because if they--oh wait, CPanel doesn't do MySQL Management itself, it uses phpMyAdmin as well.

So, you're stuck on that. Also, I've already requested this in my own topic... I had to install phpMyAdmin as well myself. (And I did it successfully.)

Rudolf

That's not a good idea.
I simpathize with you if you can't have direct access to your database, but probably you're one in a million.
Those features would just clutter the software.
Take the Forum maintenance in SMF for example. I use it once in a year (when I'm bored to death or have nothing else to do).

If you know PHP you could write your own little script that does just what you need. PhPMyAdmin is written in PHP! ;)

I will update all my mods in the next few weeks. Thanks for your patience.

I don't believe a host would disallow phpmyadmin.

What they probably disallow is running phpmyadmin unsecured

But what if they don't have sockets availible for you to use? Then that would be a serious problem.

Ben_S

phpMyAdmin connects to the database in exactly the same way SMF does, there is zero technical reason why phpMyAdmin couldn't be used.
Liverpool FC Forum with 14 million+ posts.

Maybe they don't allow the type of connection. Or maybe the user doesn't even want to try and upload a 10.9 MB directory worth of files. (phpMyAdmin version5)

Ben_S

Surely it's upto the user what they upload to the space they have paid for. Whats the point in providing MySQL if they don't let you manage your database?

Oh and as for 10.9MB, do people really blindly upload all that, more than half of it can safely be deleted.
Liverpool FC Forum with 14 million+ posts.

iyeru42

I uploaded all of it, and quite frankly, the only things I can see to be deleted are the few themes and the languages.

Ben_S

Deleting the unwanted languages gets rid of over 7MB ;).

iyeru42

lol, then I should go do that right now. :P

Ben_S

It is a bit silly really, they should offer a light package with just english and let people download the languages they want.
